TOWARD ANOTHER UNIVERSITY? REAPPROPRIATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND TERRITORIES IN RESISTANCE
This symposium is proposed as a space of critical interpellation against the dominant logics of knowledge production in Latin American higher education. Starting from theoretical contributions on the Social Mobilization of Knowledge (SMK) and the social usefulness of science, the debate centers on the tension between the “university of rankings” and a university committed to the urgent needs of its territories.
The symposium will address four fundamental axes:
1. Epistemic Justice and Intersectionality: Processes that recognize the plurality of knowledges and the trajectories of historically invisibilized subjects will be explored, promoting an academy that values territorial memories and the diversity of identities as legitimate sources of knowledge.
2. Political Subjects and Pedagogies of Peace: The role of the student as a historical subject and the need for decolonial pedagogies that contribute to building a stable and lasting peace from within the educational sphere will be analyzed.
3. Ethics and Responsibility in the Age of AI: Facing the advance of Artificial Intelligence, the symposium reflects on its impact on the human and educational dimension. A perspective is proposed that guarantees the sovereignty of knowledge and the responsible use of technology, ensuring that these tools enhance—rather than replace—critical thinking and the researcher’s ethical commitment.
4. Policies of Democratization and Open Access: Free access to knowledge is claimed as a pillar of intellectual sovereignty, analyzing how university policies can facilitate a circulation of knowledge that is genuinely public and transformative.
This gathering is an invitation to renew academic practices, seeking to consolidate cartographies of knowledge that transcend conventional models and strengthen the autonomy necessary to respond to the challenges of social transformation in our region.
