Engineering education stands at a turning point. Global uncertainty, accelerated digitalization, the emergence of artificial intelligence, and the deepening of social and environmental challenges demand a rethinking not only of training content but also of its purposes, methods and responsibilities.
This symposium proposes a space for critical reflection, interdisciplinary dialogue, and collective construction aimed at answering a central question: what kind of engineers do we need to train for the next decade, and what role should engineering play in building fairer, more sustainable and resilient societies?
The gathering will be organized around four thematic axes: 1) Ethics and social responsibility, to promote training committed to collective well-being, equity, and service to communities; 2) Artificial intelligence and the new role of the teacher, aimed at analyzing how emerging technologies transform teaching-learning processes, research, and professional practice; 3) Twenty-first-century skills, with emphasis on critical thinking, effective communication, emotional intelligence, creativity, and collaborative leadership; 4) Sustainability and glocal thinking, integrating environmental, social, cultural and territorial dimensions as central criteria in engineering decision-making.
Through keynote lectures, panel discussions and participatory workshops, the symposium will seek to generate concrete proposals for renewing engineering education from a Latin American, intercultural and global perspective. As a result, the collective construction of a roadmap for the 2026-2036 decade is envisioned, as well as the formation of an international network of academic, professional and institutional collaboration to continue the work begun.
More than a space for exchange, this symposium aspires to become a platform for imagining, debating and guiding the engineering that our time demands: an engineering that is technically rigorous, socially responsible, and deeply committed to the future.
