REGENERATIVE FUTURE SYMPOSIUM: TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCE AND NEW CHALLENGES IN HEALTH

The proposed Symposium will be an academic space aimed at exploring the scientific and technological advances that are transforming our understanding of health and disease in the twenty-first century. Its objective will be to promote dialogue among researchers, health professionals and decision-makers on emerging challenges and opportunities for building more sustainable, preventive and person-centered health systems.
The thematic lines include the study of the exposome in Latin America, highlighting the contribution of the region’s public health tradition to the International Human Exposome Project in order to comprehensively understand the determinants of disease risk and health outcomes. Dr. Mara Téllez-Rojo, from Mexico’s National Institute of Public Health, will address the concept of Anthroposomics, while, together with Dr. Diana Marín, she will analyze the opportunities and challenges of implementing this approach in the region.
The symposium will also address cardio-reno-metabolic syndrome, highlighting advances in the understanding of cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases, as well as strategies for their prevention and comprehensive management. Dr. José Fernando Botero, from the Pontifical Bolivarian University, and Dr. Sebastián Guzmán, from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, will participate in this axis; the latter will reflect on the challenges posed by limited community participation in the design and implementation of health interventions.
Another component will be dedicated to global and environmental health, with an emphasis on the impact of climate change, antimicrobial resistance in the Americas and advances in the One Health approach. Dr. Mariana Herrera, from the University of Manitoba (Canada), will share the Canadian experience in expanding One Health leadership through international partnerships in the Americas region.
In precision medicine and biosciences, advances in genomics, molecular biology and new technologies for personalizing care and developing innovative therapies will be discussed. Dr. Francisco Molina, from the Bolivarian University Clinical Foundation, will present lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of precision medicine on sepsis management.
Strategies for addressing chronic diseases and promoting healthy aging will also be discussed, with an emphasis on prevention, functionality, quality of life and well-being across the life course. Dr. Juan Carlos Rivillas, from ISGlobal, will participate in this component, sharing his experience at Imperial College London on healthy aging.
The symposium will close with a reflection on the future of translational sciences as a driver of a new generation of health systems. Dr. Raúl Devia Rodríguez, from Microsoft and the University of Groningen, will present a forward-looking vision on the convergence of artificial intelligence, biosciences, digital medicine and translational science, highlighting how these disciplines accelerate the transfer of knowledge into public policy, technologies and clinical practice. His lecture will showcase the potential of these innovations to consolidate a more predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory health model, aimed at building a regenerative and sustainable future.
