EDUCATION, HUMAN RIGHTS AND HUMANIZING PEDAGOGY: EMANCIPATORY EXPERIENCES, SOCIALLY RELEVANT RESEARCH AND LIBERATION MOVEMENTS.
This Symposium seeks to bring together experiences of new ways of understanding Education, Human Rights, and contemporary pedagogical theories. It seeks to recognize new social and political issues concerning children, the condition of women, youth, ethnic-racial issues, sustainability and the preservation of nature, the dignity of every sexual orientation and every cultural expression, riverine populations, the indigenous cosmologies of the Amerindians, and the movements of Afro-American peoples, Quilombolas, and all original communities. It brings together research and studies that take these subaltern realities as a field of observation and reflection, in order to incorporate the worldviews of the oppressed and marginalized. It highlights the educational expressions of a new way of organizing Education and School—a Humanizing Pedagogy, based on authors such as Paulo Freire, Bernard Charlot, Rubem Alves, Dermeval Saviani, José Carlos Libâneo, Branca Ponce, Jaqueline Moll, and others. It studies Integral Education and new ways of understanding the humanizing role of Education and School. It presents Human Rights Education as a perspective for humanizing education and as a universal ethic defending the dignity of all people, societies, and cultures.
