The field of social movements, beyond organized groups, engages in dialogue with the different formations of the working classes across time and space. In this sense, it is possible to understand that Social Movements are related to the field of Popular Education, whose foundational idea is rooted in an emancipatory political-pedagogical conception aimed at fostering change in the lives of individuals and their communities, produced from experience and knowledge. It is Popular Education that articulates knowledge, practices and human rights. Thus, the Social Movement can be conceived as a proposal for informal education—that is, education that takes place outside the walls of formal educational institutions. This thematic symposium aims to foster dialogue and share experience regarding research that contributes to emancipatory practices, enabling the working classes to become aware of the different possibilities for their own development and that of the collectives in which they are embedded, thereby strengthening the process of democracy.
