LATIN AMERICAN LITERARY MAGAZINES, 19TH AND 20TH CENTURIES: REDISCOVERING THE PRESENT RELEVANCE OF THE PAST

The study of literary magazines involves a curious look toward the past. Marked by change and by the contingency inherent in the urgent transition from one issue to the next, literary magazines embrace a time of their own, a time in motion that nevertheless appears suspended before the eyes of whoever returns to them.

In magazines, the present relevance of the past is rediscovered and the present is inaugurated; affinities are made explicit and differences are clarified; bonds are strengthened and enmities are forged; poetics are polished and the work-in-progress is shown. For this reason, their examination usually provides us with a refined, corrected, or novel image of a given literary moment.

We are interested in deepening the study of these spaces and unraveling the ways in which they remain relevant, as well as broadening the approaches to their study from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Some guidelines are proposed:

– Historiography of literary magazines.
– Intellectual networks.
– Spaces of continuity, resistance, or rupture.
– Aesthetics and materialities.
– The relationship between image and text.
– The movement of authors across different magazine spaces.
– Monographic studies of magazines.
