INTERNATIONAL MIGRATORY DISPLACEMENTS: MEMORIES, HERITAGE, ARCHIVES AND MUSEUMS
The tensions linked to contemporary displacements have acquired central relevance and have broadened interest in the study of this theme, both in relation to the past and to the present. Among other aspects, one observes their impact on societies of departure and arrival, as well as issues involving reception at Immigrant/Emigrant Hostels, many of which have been repurposed as museums, heritage sites of memory for these processes.
Accordingly, this Symposium aims to present papers/research related to Memories, territories of memory, Heritage, archives, and Museums of Emigration/Immigration. It seeks to deepen understanding of flows and the formation of networks through the lens of reception, and through actions and strategies of heritage-making and museumification. Furthermore, since museums maintain an intense relationship with historiographical production, the symposium is open to papers on individual and institutional historiographical memories concerning international migratory displacements.
