These dense and complex narratives communicate on multiple levels, invoking numerous pre-Hispanic events and accounts as well as colonial celebrations and commemorations. In some cases, these interpolations resulted in surprising contexts, while in other cases we can observe similarities in cultural production when comparing the compositions and documentation of various regions. Some narratives still exert influence on the cultures that continue to practice or consult them, and at the same time reveal a cultivation of elegant poetics and hermeneutics that require an understanding of intercultural conversations centered on considerations of performance and reception.<\/p>\n<p>This symposium offers a conversation on how to read, interpret, and share these and other materials in order to appreciate the glimpses of pre-Hispanic American communities that they preserve, as well as how these accounts represent the colonial situation in which they were recorded.
