Religious space in the 20th-21st centuries has taken different paths to address the liturgical program from different disciplines: philosophy, architecture, engineering, and\/or the plastic arts, which generate spaces consistent with a socio-cultural context that provoke emotions, attitudes, and actions in users who experience a religious experience, arising from an idea and based on questions that lead to the materialization of that idea, in which the different disciplines intervene.<\/p>\n
Creativity, a necessary and highly important quality in the design of space, is the source of ideas. Ideas ultimately translate into forms, and these have proportions, measurements, and concrete materials; the mechanisms and strategies for space always relate to the physical human being, to the human body.<\/p>\n
Space, whether religious or not, arises from an idea: “‘Ideas’ are complex concepts […] they emerge as a synthesis of the concrete variables and factors that converge in the spatial fact and will be: context, function, composition, and construction” (Campos Baeza A. 2016: 43), adding the theoretical-methodological and the plastic dimension.<\/p>\n
Religious spaces should convey expressiveness and character as significant elements in the interpretation of built religious space. The former is manifested when the constructive reality is shown, both in the fa\u00e7ade through the denotation of its function and in the use of ornamentation to determine its expressiveness. On the other hand, materiality likewise becomes an element of analysis, the material-expression correspondence in which, if the function fulfills its purpose, the expressiveness of the building will be conclusive, added to the ornamental elements that complement it, since ornament is conceived as a decorative motif characteristic of the building type, whether with geometric, figurative, or allusive forms in the case of religious spaces, due to the iconographic program that takes into account the social impact in a given urban context.<\/p>\n
For this, it is important to recognize the functionality, expressiveness, technology used, and structural aspect of the building in question, and the relationship that exists among certain concepts that shape it, cases that have handled similar ideas in religious spaces formally constituted by socio-urban context, function, composition, construction, and plastic arts as variables that materialize, as well as the physical elements of sensation and perception, which will make it possible to establish the originality of the design of religious spaces, in this case in the 20th-21st centuries.<\/p>\n
Based on the above, we invite the dissemination of works by professionals from different regions who have left their mark on the solutions they have used for religious space from the second half of the 20th century to the present day of the 21st century. This symposium aims for scholars of the religious phenomenon to present theories, methodologies, designs, technological, constructive, and plastic approaches, which may be descriptive or practical cases of execution, while also showing the socio-spatial context in which they are located, allowing an understanding of the social impact in a time-space relationship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","simposio_area":[69],"class_list":["post-11008","simposio","type-simposio","status-publish","hentry","simposio_area-arquitectura-y-urbanismo"],"yoast_head":"\n
