Today, it has become commonplace to claim that we live in an era characterized exclusively by connected knowledge and global information networks. However, in order to problematize and qualify this assertion, the social history of knowledge presents itself as an indispensable analytical perspective. This subfield of intellectual history shows us that interconnection is not a recent phenomenon but a long-term historical process. Through its lens, it is possible to understand how human societies have taken shape over time, revealing that knowledge is not an abstract element but an active force that helps mold political communities, structure economic markets, and weave social bonds through complex symbolic exchanges.<\/p>\n
Within this theoretical framework, and in line with the so-called \u00abglobal turn\u00bb in historiography — which seeks to move beyond the watertight compartments of national states –, the need to think of history in dynamic and relational terms acquires renewed force. This implies shifting the focus from isolated local productions to the multidirectional circulation of concepts, discourses and ideas, closely examining the various practices and material supports that made such movements possible.<\/p>\n
Under these premises, this symposium proposes a space for reflection on the circulation and transfer of knowledge between Europe and America during the period from 1850 to 1950. This century of analysis is fundamental, since it coincides with the consolidation and maturation of national states, a process that demanded new forms of governance, legitimation and social control.<\/p>\n
Starting from the central question of cultural transfers, the symposium seeks to unravel and connect the leading role played by various agents, discourses and supports in shaping the links between culture and politics during a period of consolidation of national states. During this era, the management of population, the control and delimitation of territories, the invention of symbolic communities, and the implementation of capitalist economies did not occur in isolation. On the contrary, they responded to a multidirectional and transcontinental interplay that articulated global dynamics, permeating national borders and reaching local and regional spaces. Ultimately, the symposium invites us to decenter the traditional view and to explore how the analysis of cultural transfers between Europe and America leads us to raise new problems and perspectives on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","simposio_area":[62],"class_list":["post-10715","simposio","type-simposio","status-publish","hentry","simposio_area-historia"],"yoast_head":"\n
