The task of thinking the political has been, ever since human beings began building communities in which the exchange of ideas is possible, a need inherent to the community itself. If this task, today, comes associated with a postmodern era characterized by a litany proclaiming the end of utopias, of history, of art and, in short, of the political, this should not lead us into a resignation content with the immediate; rather, it should lead us to seize the circumstances to raise, again and again, the essence of the political. Far from assuming that postmodernity implies a nihilistic paralysis that intimidates thought, we assume, in fact, that unveiling what lies hidden behind that supposed paralysis is one of our challenges.<\/p>\n
Thinking the political is one of the best ways we have to try to understand and diagnose the various tribulations affecting democratic life, continually at risk of perishing amid real political practices that spread disaffection, blur the truth, and extend social antagonisms. At the same time, thinking the political is an activity that highlights the need to update and revitalize the utopian possibilities that the triumph of a single, omnipresent ideology seems to constantly exhaust, to the point that imagining other communal scenarios has become one of the main challenges.<\/p>\n
For this reason, the proposal launched by this symposium is to go to the heart of the political, attempting a multidisciplinary approach. The reason is evident: different disciplines seek to understand the political, and therefore open dialogue becomes the best means of addressing everything of interest in the search for new paths and new theoretical and practical understandings.
