We prioritize interdisciplinary reflections addressing topics such as affirmative action—access and retention in Basic and Higher Education—, histories of communicational and educational processes—including non-formal ones—, critical interculturality (Candau, 2012, 2016; Walsh, 2017), critical theory, decoloniality—of knowledge, of power, of being…—(Lander, 2005; Walsh, 2017), anticoloniality (Césaire, 2022, 2024; Fanon, 2020, 2022), countercoloniality (Nêgo Bispo, 2015, 2023), social, indigenous and Black movements, as well as experiences of struggle and resistance of the original peoples and Black populations of the Amazons. The papers presented may result from completed or ongoing research, accounts of experiences, or teaching proposals and outreach projects. We understand that education, histories, social movements and indigenous and Black issues in the Amazons are permeated by attempts at denial, annihilation, whitening, erasure… that insist on rendering invisible the many historical-educational trajectories experienced in the Amazons, and that also disregard the struggles, resistances and (re)existences of the original peoples, of Black people, of riverine communities…, which have likewise been marked by relations and actions of assimilation, ethnic repression, and the systematic practice of genocide. In other words, these issues have given rise to many discourses, reflections and analyses regarding the historical-educational processes and the indigenous, Black and riverine peoples and nations, who have undergone/undergo oscillations and (re)significations over the centuries, with a plurality of understandings coexisting—from assimilationist to romantic ones—showing that the educational, historical and population identifications of the Amazon range from images of heroes to internal enemies who must be pacified—enslaved—civilized and incorporated into societies, signifying a flagrant disrespect, still today, for socio-educational, linguistic, historical, belonging, territorial and cultural rights. In this sense, from the theoretical-methodological perspective set out for receiving papers in this Thematic Symposium, we hold that educational-historical studies, social movements and indigenous and Black Amazonian issues can encourage and foster works that build and rearticulate social contexts marked by colonialities, especially involving indigenous peoples, Black populations, social movements and the historical-educational processes rooted in the territory—which is also an important national and international geopolitical space—known as the Amazon(s).

[53
post-10521","simposio","type-simposio","status-publish","hentry","simposio_area-educacion

EDUCATION, HISTORY(IES), SOCIAL MOVEMENTS AND INDIGENOUS AND BLACK ISSUES IN THE AMAZONS - 59º Congreso Internacional de Americanistas

<meta property="og:description" content="This Thematic Symposium (TS) aims to expand spaces for discussion and theoretical-empirical studies focused on topics relating education, history(ies), social movements, and indigenous and Black issues in the Amazons.
