This session aims to present advances in maritime and underwater archaeology studies conducted in the Americas. The call opens discussion on cultural interaction with the sea, addressing aspects of economy and subsistence, landscape construction and symbolic notions, gender discussions, and the capacity for resilience and adaptation under conditions of climatic change or variability, as well as the effects of the El Ni\u00f1o phenomenon. It addresses studies from the coast, shallow waters and submerged sites, where human beings developed in marine, lacustrine, insular and riverbank environments.
\nThe session will be open to methodological proposals addressing topics related to predictive models for identifying submerged sites and landscapes, formation processes of underwater sites, post-depositional taphonomic analyses of archaeological materials in underwater contexts, and archaeometric studies considering aquatic bioindicators. It will also welcome studies on the conservation and preservation of coastal and underwater sites, considering the current effects of climate change, water warming, coastal erosion and associated modifying agents. Also welcome are evaluations of public policies and international conventions related to the conservation and preservation of underwater sites, in which local communities have a say and archaeological information contributes to the creation of sustainable models.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","simposio_area":[46],"class_list":["post-10347","simposio","type-simposio","status-publish","hentry","simposio_area-arqueologia"],"yoast_head":"\n
